Signs It’s Time to See the Dentist
We know that for many people, a trip to the dentist isn’t always fun. But scheduling those regular dental checkups twice a year are one of the best ways to ensure a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.
Outside your biannual visits to the dentist, there are also a few other signs that could indicate that it’s time to make an appointment.
You’re having tooth pain. If you’re experiencing a toothache, jaw pain, or redness, swelling, or inflammation around your gums, that typically means there’s an issue that requires the expertise of a dentist to remedy.
Your gums bleed frequently. If you’re noticing blood in the sink on a regular basis when you’re brushing or flossing, it’s probably time to call the dentist. Bleeding gums could indicate a number or oral health issues, including gingivitis or full-blown gum disease.
You’re having trouble eating or drinking very hot or very cold food and drinks. If you can’t enjoy some of your favorite food or beverages, sensitive teeth could be to blame. Issues such as cavities, gum disease, or worn tooth enamel can cause tooth sensitivity, and it’s an issue that should definitely be discussed with your dentist.
You’ve had dental work and something doesn’t feel right. If you’ve recently had crown work, cavity fillings, root canal work, or another type of dental procedure, and you suspect something is wrong, make an appointment with your dentist.
You have a chronic medical condition such as heart disease or diabetes. When you’re living with these types of chronic conditions, they don’t just affect your body. They affect your mouth, too. Conditions such as diabetes and heart disease increase the need for regular dental visits, and you should consider your dentist as part of your condition management team.
